Setting Metadata Values
To set metadata values:
- When items are added to SharePoint, Contributor applies metadata in the following order:
- metadata fields with the same name and same type are automatically copied
- metadata fields with the same name and compatible type (single line of text to multiple lines of text) are automatically copied
- metadata fields with a different name or incompatible type are not copied
- Default metadata values as specified by the user or default metadata values as specified by SharePoint.
- Word/Excel/PowerPoint/InfoPath and Office 2007 document properties.
- Outlook Email Message field mapping.
- For Document Libraries, the Filename metadata field is replaced with the actual file name.
- ContentType field is replaced with the user’s chosen content type if content types are enabled for the Document Library or List.
- Metadata values that the user sets manually through the Metadata Editor (either single items or multiple items).
- SharePoint applies SharePoint defined default values to properties that have no value defined.
